Dry Creek Baptist Camp Challege Course

When people become willing to try something new that they don't think they can do, to face the unknown, or make an effort to accomplish the difficult - growth takes place.

Trained Christian facilitators share with participants spiritual truths and provide moral support in a safe, supportive, and caring manner. A deeper understanding of what trusting Jesus Christ is really about can occur in people's lives through the Challenge Course Experience.

Participants will sense the supportive atmosphere from the leaders and fellow participants. As a result, participants will often try new things and will be more involved than they normally are. This can lead to increased self confidence and improved social interaction skills.

We stress beginning slowly with groups in our Challenge Course program. Group participants are allowed the opportunity to gradually warm up to each other through the use of fun icebreaker and initative games.

The goal is to see the groups' level of trust, acceptance, and willingness to work together increase. More difficult challenges are presented by the leader as the group develops as a team. Participation and a willingness to try are encouraged and valued over winning and losing.

The Dry Creek Challenge Course was constructed in accordance with nationally recognized industry standards by a professional Challege Course company. The course is inspected annually by the same company.

Groups are led by certified instructors. An ideal group size for each instructor is 10 -15 participants. The experience can consist of a few hours of basic, foundational activities or serveral days of increasingly more challenging activities. This depends on the group's needs, available time, and purpose while at the camp.

Challenge Course Clothing Guidelines

After operating our challenge course for several years, we have determined that these guidelines will enable our participants and facilitators to have a safe, fun, and non-embarrassing experience. Our goal is for particpants to grow, both as a team, and individually - without being distracted or encumbered by clothing.

RECOMMENDED:

Tennis shoes or hiking shoes with good, thick soles.
Crew neck shirts with sleeves.
Shirts long enough to be tucked in are best.
To prevent abrasions and injuries, long pants or jeans are better than shorts.
Pants that are moderately loose fitting in the legs, if jeans are tight, stretch denim offers better maneuverability.
Long hair should be braided or in a low ponytail.
Jewelry should be removed and kept in a save place. Religious necklaces can be tucked inside shirt.

NOT ACCEPTABLE OR PRACTICAL:

Flip flops or shoes with open heels, Shoes with slick soles are very dangerous.
Halter tops, sleeveless shirts, spaghetti straps, tank tops, or short, bare-midriff shirts.
Shorts that are too short or have writing across the rear. Shorts are not recommended for challenge course activites. If worn, they must be no shorter than mid-thigh.
Low cut pants or shorts that reveal underwear or bare-midriff.
Clothing that is excessively baggy can get caught in pulleys, ropes, and rocks on the climbing wall.
Sleepwear of any type.
Artwork or text on clothing that promotes human destruction or disrespect - alcohol, drugs, music groups, profanity, etc.

GROUP LEADERS, PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR GROUP BEFORE COMING TO DRY CREEK.

Remind your group that they may be sitting or lying on the ground. On the High Ropes elements, seat-harnessed particpants will be climbing above belayers and spectators, who will be looking upward. Therefore, those dressed immodestly will be discretely asked, by a camp leader of the same gender, to change clothing. Group leaders will be contacted first, whenever possible.
